"Building better communities for a better tomorrow."

Chief Petty Officer Jackson, USNR_edited

"I come from a proud family that has served in the armed forces of the United States since my great grandfather, Sgt. Walter Jackson, served as a Union Soldier in the 36th U.S. Colored Infantry (USCI) during the American Civil War.

The 36th US Colored  Infantry's initial assignment was to guard captured prisoners of war who were held at Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia, before marching on to retake Richmond and later joining the fight at Appomattox. Walter Jackson's name, along with 209,145 colored soldiers and sailors who fought for freedom, is inscribed on the African American Civil War Memorial in Washington, DC.

Walter Jackson's last assignment was in Texas where he was among the troops who took the message of freedom to Texas, where on June 19, 1865 (Juneteenth), the slaves learned the war was over, the Union victorious and all slaves were free. Like my great grandfather, I too fight for what is right and just in this world.  I have been involved with public service and community activism for as long as I can remember.

I want to work for you because we need to create more living wage jobs as we improve our crumbling infrastructure, create a 21st century educational system, strength America's cyber defense systems and provide public safety - especially ending gun violence on our streets, a top priority. With many decades of higher education, military, and government experience, I know what it takes to find solutions, navigate the complicated governmental agencies and resolve issues

I ask for your support and vote as we 'Build Better Communities for a Better Tomorrow'."
